Kaliyadhah in Vrindavan is a very holy place. This is the place where Krishna fought with Kaliya nag (the great serpant). You can have virtual tour of Kaliyadah here.

Vrindavan, often hailed as the city of temples, boasts countless sacred sites, each with its unique story. However, certain sites stand as icon, deeply connected with the very identity of this holy city. Undoubtedly, Kaliyadah in Vrindavan is definitely one such iconic place.

Legend of Kaliya (the serpant)

Legends is that Garuda had stopped the snake Kaliya Naag from going into the Pacific Ocean. So, Kaliya Naag went to live in the holy Yamuna River. He wanted to feel safe from Garuda there. However, his poison made the river poisonous, which hurt the people of Vrindavan. Because Shri Krishna loved the people, he told Kaliya Naag to leave the Yamuna. But the great serpant did not listen.

Therefore, Lord Krishna fought fiercely with him. This fight ended when Lord Krishna danced on the snake’s head, which was full of poison. As Lord Krishna danced on the serpent’s head, the snake’s pride went away. Finally, when the snake became humble, Lord Krishna told him to go to the ocean. He promised that Garuda would not bother him because the Lord’s feet had touched his head. Kaliya Dah in Vrindavan is the place where Krishna took away all the pain from Kaliya Naag.

Significance for Devotees
