Vansi vat, Vrindavan

Vansi vat in Vrindavan is a very holy place. Vansi vat temple is situated here where Lord Krishna married Radha rani. You can listen Shri Premand ji maharaj explaining the marriage of Lord Krishna and Radha rani. The temple is located inside Bhandeervan, one of the 12 jungles of Vrindavan.

Vrindavan, often hailed as the city of temples, boasts countless sacred sites, each with its unique story. However, certain sites stand as icon, deeply connected with the very identity of this holy city. Undoubtedly, Vansi vat in Vrindavan is definitely one such iconic place.

History

Here, Lord Krishna as Gopinath, the Lord of the Gopis, did his well-known Maharaas dance. This happened on the holy day of Sharad Purnima, the full moon night. “Banshi” means flute, and “Vat” means Banyan Tree.

When the Gopis heard the divine flute music, they felt very drawn and ran to Banshi Vat. Devotees believe that Shri Krishna plays his flute here forever. Also, Shri Krishna took as many forms as there were Gopis. This place, Banshi Vat, where this happened is 5500 years old. Lord Shiva even came to this place as a Gopi during the Maharaas. Because of this, Shri Krishna gave him the name “Gopeshwar Mahadev”. Krishna’s sadhak say that Vrindavan is the best place, Nand Gaun is the best village, Vanshi Vat is the best Banyan Tree, and Radha Krishna is the best name.

The Gopis loved Shri Krishna so much. Because of their strong desire for him, they left their children, husbands, and homes. During the Raas Leela dance, Shri Krishna suddenly disappeared from the Gopis’ sight. The Gopis started looking for Krishna and sang Gopi geet. When their feeling of being apart from Krishna became very strong, Krishna appeared to them.

Also, there is a big Banyan tree here. It is said that the Radha Gopinath deity appeared at this spot (this deity is now in Jaipur). People believe that Shri Krishna still plays his flute here even today, and some say they can even hear it.

When Chaitanya Mahaprabhu first visited Vrindavan, the very first place he went to was Vamshi Vat.

Marriage of Krishna and Radha rani

The story is mentioned in Patalkhanda of Padmapurana. Creator of universe lord Brahma himself got Krishna and Radha rani married. Once Nand baba took Krishna for cow grazing when he was young. He left cows for grazing and lied down to rest below a tree. When he got up it was a dark night. He got anxious for safety of Krishna.

Right then he saw Radha rani passing by and he asked her to drop Krishna to home. She happily agreed to it. When the left from there Krishna appeared in his divine form and asked Radha to marry her and she happily agreed to it. Afterwards creator of the unoverse lord Brahma appeared himself and got them married with rituals of Gandharv vivah.

Temples in Vansi vat

In Banshi Vat, there are two temples. One of them is a small temple called “Charan” Mandir. It is very well-known because of the holy “Charan” (footprints) of Shri Radha Krishna. A great saint, “Acharya Shri Girdhari Sharan Dev,” found these footprints in 1820. People believe that Sage Girdhari Ji loved Shri Krishna very much. Because of his service and constant prayers, the Lord blessed him. He gave the sage their “Charan Chinh” (footprint).

Also, there is another temple here. This one is big and beautiful. King Oyal built it in 1900. Every day, people offer proper service to the statues of Radha Krishna in this temple.
